The Palestinian Red Crescent Society (PRCS) announced on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, the suspension of operations at one of its medical clinics in eastern Gaza City after several Israeli shells landed in the surrounding area, posing a serious threat to the safety of medical teams and patients.
In a statement, the organization said:
“Operations at the PRCS Al-Zaytoun Clinic in Gaza City have been halted after shells struck the area surrounding the clinic, endangering the safety of medical staff and patients.”
The clinic had been providing services to thousands of patients, particularly as the area became crowded with displaced residents from eastern Gaza following evacuation orders issued by the Israeli military.
The statement added that “thousands of civilians will now be forced to walk long distances to access healthcare or to get their children vaccinated.”
The PRCS noted that this brings the total number of its clinics forced out of service since October 7, 2023, to 18, due to ongoing Israeli military actions and repeated evacuation orders.
This development comes at a time when Gaza’s healthcare system is on the brink of total collapse. The fuel crisis, caused by Israel’s closure of border crossings since March, has put what remains of the Strip’s hospitals and medical centers at risk of shutting down.
The crisis is further compounded by a severe shortage of essential medicines and medical supplies, while the number of wounded arriving at hospitals continues to rise, as repeatedly confirmed by the Ministry of Health.
